St. Nicholas and the Snow

Monday was the feast of St. Nicholas. Here are a few pictures of how we celebrated.

On Saturday morning we took the kids to see Santa at the local mall and have their picture taken with him. I think they looked very nice for the occasion!

Each year at our house, St. Nicholas leaves these tasty "snow" cookies.

Philip was very excited to open his package of airplanes from St. Nick.

And Lucy loved the tissue paper.

St. Nicholas not only brought gifts, he also sent a major snow storm our way. It has not stopped snowing since Sunday and we are nearing 3 feet.

Halloween Pictures

I know that these are late but the opportunities to add pictures are far and few between. Anyways here is our horse and ballerina who brought in quite a fair amount of candy. Philip had the last sucker today after lunch!

Dog!

Introducing our new dog Zoe! She is a 4year old Jack Russell/ Beagle mix, and about 5lbs over weight. We got her from a local rescue group where she had been living with a foster family with young children for the last 6months. We are working hard to establish ourselves as the pack leaders in the house to curb a few of her bad habits. It is so much fun to have her here!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We enjoyed a beautiful holiday weekend and here are a few shots for you to enjoy!

I did have a video but for some reason it is taking forever to upload. I will have to try that again later.

Busy September

Here it is nearly the end of September! I can't believe how quickly the months are passing. This has been a great month with lots of growth and developments in both children. Philip has started his own "school" books and loves it. Lucy is on the verge of crawling, can sit for a little bit before toppling over, has nearly two teeth, and is trying to eat everything in sight! Philip and Lucy are beginning to play together also which is very fun to see.

Cleveland!

We enjoyed a fun week in Cleveland with lots of cousin playtime, sister chats, cooking and all round fun.

Niagara Falls

August turned into a very busy and fun month for us. One of the highlights was meeting Philip's godparents at Niagara Falls. We only stayed a couple of hours but fully enjoyed our visit.

Summer Produce

Just a quick peek here at our tomatoes! And an action shot of Philip trying to water the garden. He is trying to get the water to spray by putting his thumb over like I do it. Sometimes I wonder if he or the garden got more water.

This was a fun find at our local farmers market, a yellow watermelon! It tasted very similarly to a red one but I really think it is more beautiful.

Wrestling Noodle

Here is a video that I took last night after dinner. It is a good peek at what Lucy is doing these days. Funny thing is that I mention she can't roll over but as of this morning she has rolled over a couple of times on her own! And of course Philip is right in on the action. I hope that you enjoy.

Tamales!

For the past little while, Mike and I have been bitten by some sort of mexican bug. We bought a special tortilla press and now only eat them homemade. But what we both have really wanted to try was making tamales. By complete accident, we found a local Latino market and bought some corn husks which kickstarted this endeavour. Making tamales is a two day process. On Wednesday last week, I cooked and shredded the pork and then seasoned. Then Mike was in charge of soaking the husks for two hours, making the masa dough mix and assembling the tamales. After that we steamed them for about an hour and forty minutes. Definitely a time consuming process but it was totally worth it! They managed to have that unmistakable tamale flavor which we both were craving. Delicious!

(That is a pepper from our garden!)

First Pickings

We finally were able to pick our first tomato! You can imagine how excited Philip was to pick and eat this little treat. We look forward to the many green ones turning soon.
